Navaratri is the sacred festival of nine nights, filled with special divine energy.
It is not just about fasting and rituals — it is a path of purifying the mind, renewing the body, and awakening the inner power of Shakti.
🌸 Each day is dedicated to one of the nine forms of Maa Durga.
🌿 Through fasting, prayers, and pujas, we connect with the Divine Mother and invite her blessings into our lives.
The Name and Nature of Durga
The Sanskrit name Durga comes from:
• dur — distance, remoteness,
• ga — to reach, to move toward.
Together, it means “hard to reach” or “inaccessible”, pointing to her transcendental and supreme nature.
Durga is the Supreme Goddess, endowed with the powers of:
🔷 Creation (srishti)
🔷 Preservation (sthiti)
🔷 Destruction (samhara)
Because she is difficult to attain, she also possesses the quality of concealment (tirodhana) and appears to the world as Mahamaya — the Great Illusion.
At the same time, she is the Goddess of descending grace (anugraha-shakti).
The Energy of Navaratri
During Navaratri, Shakti descends upon the practitioner (sadhaka) as Urdhva-kundalini-shakti, rising through:
• Rudra-granthi
• Vishnu-granthi
• Brahma-granthi
On the tenth day, the sadhaka can receive the full grace of the Goddess and experience spiritual awakening.
When Navaratri is Celebrated
Navaratri is observed at least twice a year:
• Ashvina Navaratri — in autumn,
• Vasanta Navaratri — in spring.
Additionally, there are two Gupta Navaratris (“gupta” meaning hidden or secret), celebrated in winter and summer.
The dates are determined by the lunar calendar, so they are not fixed.
The Three Phases of Navaratri
The nine nights of Navaratri are divided into three periods of three days each, dedicated to honoring the three aspects of the Divine Mother:
1️⃣ Prathama Charita — Durga as Mahakali (birth).
2️⃣ Madhyama Charita — Durga as Mahalakshmi (love, beauty, sustenance of the world).
3️⃣ Uttama Charita — Durga as Saraswati (knowledge, completion, supreme wisdom).
Through this, the Nava Durga — the nine forms of Goddess Durga — are revealed.
Practice and Fasting
During Navaratri, the practitioner undergoes a process of purification, removing the impurities of the three gunas:
• tamas — laziness, inertia,
• rajas — passion, restlessness,
• sattva — even attachment to goodness.
An essential element is fasting. Traditionally, people avoid:
• meat, fish, alcohol,
• onions, grains, and legumes.
This purifies the body and mind, and opens the heart to the grace of the Goddess.
✨ Navaratri is not only a festival, but also a spiritual path leading to liberation and awakening of the soul through the grace of the Divine Mother.
What is Especially Auspicious During Navaratri?
🪷 Fasting and Austerity
During these days, it is especially auspicious to cleanse body and mind through discipline:
• Give up meat, fish, and eggs.
• Completely avoid alcohol and smoking.
• Replace regular salt with Himalayan pink salt.
Such fasting helps one gently pass through transformation and fills the being with strength.

Maa traveled the path from being Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksha, to becoming the Goddess Devi, ultimately as Siddhidatri—“the Bestower of supernatural powers.” Step by step, she resolved the material and human realm, moved into the spiritual, received what Lakshmi grants, and attained the supreme intellect (buddhi), the highest Knowledge and wisdom of Saraswati Devi.
Thus, Maa reached absolute perfection.
It was not an easy Path, but she succeeded—to show us the way and grant us the Divine Mother’s greatest blessings. ❤️
And so, we celebrate the autumn Navaratri, during which each of us gets the chance to become better, to purify ourselves, to be freed from limiting qualities and illusions by offering them to Maa—and thus attain complete Spiritual perfection.
